Emily Fasick

Art Education / MA

I am the founder and director of the online Battle Jacket Museum, as well as a teaching artist for its free community art workshops. I earned my MA in Art Education from Academy of Art University in December 2019, and continue to use mixed media and fiber arts to explore the themes of nostalgia, familiarity, and belonging. I am also a program assistant for George Mason University's Veterans and the Arts Initiative in Manassas, Virginia, where I work to pioneer the facilitation of interdisciplinary virtual community arts programming for the Veteran community in the era of COVID-19.

CAPSTONE PROJECT

My Battle Jacket Workshop Project focused on learning the history, folklore and cultural significance of battle jackets and teaching participants to customize their battle jackets through distressing, painting, studding, pinning and patching. The workshop provided a safe space to explore and celebrate their identities and build a greater sense of belonging in their communities.
