Yiwen Tsai

Industrial Design / MA

My name is Yiwen Tsai. I am a Taiwanese graphic and industrial designer pursuing a MA degree in Industrial design from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I am a designer but also a huge music lover who has been playing more than ten instruments since the age of five. I believe that design can turn music into a multi-dimensional sensual experience. Combining music, sound, and design can build a new kind of connection between users and products.

Infi-Light

String instruments are created by humans to bring joy to our lives, but people tend to throw the strings away when replacing them. After creating music we love, most used and broken instrument strings end up in a landfill. According to Earth 911, over 1.5 million pounds of used instrument strings end up in U.S. landfills every year. Our mission has been to reuse the instrument strings and give them a new life. Turning the strings into a lighting product can reduce the amount of waste and give a second usage for this material.
