Sandy Ong

Jewelry & Metal Arts / MA

Sandy Ong was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. Since a very young age she has always gravitated towards creating art. At the age of nine during a visit to a fashion designer’s atelier, her interest was piqued when the designer began sketching and designing a dress for her mother. From that point on she knew she wanted to be a designer. Fast forward to a few years later, she obtained her associate's degree in fashion design in Manila. She moved to the U.S. to pursue a more in-depth education and earned her bachelor's degree in fashion design at Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

After graduating and gaining some work experience in the fashion industry, Sandy wanted to explore another outlet and form of art that is similar to her background revolving around the idea of wearable art. She began her journey on learning about jewelry when she returned to the Academy in pursuit of a Master of Arts degree in Jewelry & Metal Arts. Jewelry-making ignited her passion in the sense that she was able to express her own experiences and feelings better through the concepts and inspirations behind her jewelry art. She hopes to create more wearable art that will continue to inspire and resonate with her audience.
